The concept of the Wembygami caught my interest recently, the idea that Victor Wembanyama, from his moment of entry to the NBA, is rewriting history through box scores. As of this writing, the Spurs' rookie sensation has posted six stat lines -- points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks -- that were unprecedented in league history.
Being a Knicks fan, it's felt like Josh Hart has been doing a lot of unprecedented stuff lately, as, well, there's nobody in the league like him: 6-4 with guard skills and the rebounding and defensive intensity that are the hallmarks of Big 5 college ball in Philly. He doesn't score a ton, but fills the other columns on the stat line, and... sure enough, Hart has had four Wembygamis -- uh, Hartgamis -- this season.
That's pretty cool... and then you find out that Luka Dončić has posted four Lukagamis in his last four games. Working on a streak of seven straight triple-doubles, all at Dončić's high scoring rate, the chances get better of something unique happening. Wembanyama being 7-4 and having the ability to rack up blocks and steals like you wouldn't believe... yeah, Wembygami is gonna be a good name for this phenomenon.
It just turns out that unique box score lines aren't necessarily so rare, as we found out with a nasty lilttle trivia game on episode 7 of Hoops from Casual Diehard. These boxgamis are popping up all over the NBA. Also on the show: Ace, James, and I talk about the Celtics' mini-slump, the contenders of the West, and more...
But that's not the only new episode we've got today. Casual Diehard 31 is also here, a combination baseball/auto racing episode with Addy, Britt, and Lily. There's also a bunch of astrology talk.
This was a lot of podcasting for one night, but also a lot of fun. It's also probably easier for you to just subscribe on a podcast app, right?
